The Most Important of the White Blood Cells (WBC)

white blood cellsWhat is the most important type of white blood cell in your body?

There are numerous different white blood cells, but the T regulatory cell is the most important. This white blood cell is also called the T suppressor cell or Treg.

What’s unique about this type of white blood cell is that it does the opposite of other white blood cells—it suppresses the immune system.

In turn, this gives the immune system balance and prevents the immune system from overreacting. It also helps reduce mucus. T regulatory cells regulate self-tolerance. This means it helps prevent your immune system from attacking healthy cells.

It allows your immune system to tell the difference between your own healthy cells and pathogenic cells. In turn, this helps with preventing autoimmune conditions, including:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Type-1 diabetes
  • Asthma
  • MS
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Cytokine Storm

There are several nutrients that can affect T regulatory cell function.
These include:
1. Vitamin A
2. Vitamin D
3. Zinc
4. DHA
5. Probiotics
6. Gluten (avoid this!)

Any nutrient deficiencies that suppress or atrophy the thymus gland will reduce T regulatory cell function.

The “T” in T regulatory cell stands for thymus. That’s because it’s produced in the thymus gland. As you age, your thymus shrinks, causing more inflammation and poor immune function.

Children who have taken antibiotics early on tend to have problems with T regulatory cells, asthma, allergies and certain other autoimmune diseases.
