Hypoxia and Nerve Damage (Lack of Oxygen)

lack of oxygenHow does it happens, what can be done

Hypoxia is a condition in which tissues are deprived of an adequate supply of oxygen. It is the failure of oxygen to gain access to, or to be utilized by the body. The term anoxia is commonly used but the more precise term is hypoxia as there is rarely a complete oxygen deprivation.

Hypoxia is a shortage of oxygen, while anoxia is the absence of oxygen.

For some reason, the tissues are deprived of oxygen. This can happen in different ways.

There are different types of hypoxia.

Hypoxemic – low blood oxygen count as in altitude sickness, low blood transport, anemia, low blood oxygen-carrying capacity (i.e. carbon monoxide poisoning)

Distributive – low blood flow such as in shock or atherosclerosis

Histotoxic – poisoning (i.e.- cyanide) or anything that keeps cells from using oxygen.

If not reversed quickly, hypoxia can lead to necrosis (tissue death) as in heart attack or nerve damage.

The brain cannot be deprived of the necessary oxygen for more than a few minutes. Nerve cell degeneration begins quickly, and damage to the respiratory centers prevents resumption of breathing.

Nerve Damage

An inadequate supply of oxygen can result in nerve damage. There are many ways in which this can occur.

Lasting Relief:  None of the various neuropathy treatments will build healthy nerves. You can cover up the symptoms and you can increase circulation and you can make a person feel less pain, etc., but if you build healthy nerves, there will not be any symptoms (healthy nerves don’t hurt, tingle, burn, are not numb, etc.) and the relief will be lasting.

Restoring Nerve Health

Healthy sensory nerves mean that they are not painful. Healthy nerves mean that they communicate and don’t send wrong signals such as burning, hot and cold, tingling when there is no reason for it. Healthy motor nerves mean that they relay messages from the brain to the muscle so that they move correctly. Nerves need to be healthy to function properly.

The body needs specific nutrients (vitamins) to be able to build healthy nerves.

It may not give immediate relief (although many do feel changes in the first week) as the vitamins are working at a cellular level, but it does address the actual problem, builds healthy nerves and brings lasting relief.
