What is NAC and what does it do for my health?
I was asking what is NAC when I heard about this supplement when I read it was not being sold on certain platforms for some reason. That made me curious. Then someone told me they bought NAC drops as it would help their cataracts, that it was good for sinus conditions, etc. Seemed to be a good antioxidant. I wanted to find out about it and here is what I found.
So what is NAC?
NAC is short for N-Acetyl-Cysteine
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is an amino acid that boosts antioxidant function and is a source of the conditionally essential amino acid L-cysteine. It has also been found to raise glutathione levels in the body. Maintaining adequate glutathione levels is important to maintaining the health of the respiratory, hepatic, and immune systems. NAC is also important in supporting antioxidant protection of fats and proteins and supporting the normal response to inflammation.
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) boosts antioxidant function and is commonly used as an agent to help clear sinus and airway congestion caused by mucus overproduction. NAC is a source of the conditionally essential amino acid L-cysteine and is a precursor to the tripeptide glutathione, an essential intracellular antioxidant, and therefore supports antioxidant and cellular detoxification pathways in the body. In addition, a growing body of research also highlights the role of NAC in supporting neuropsychiatric health.
NAC provides your body with the raw materials needed to produce the body’s most important antioxidant glutathione, your body’s “master antioxidant.”
Glutathione is found in all of your cells and protects them from free radical damage and wastes. It’s also especially important for your liver and protects your cells and tissues.
Promotes your body’s normal detoxification process and healthy inflammatory response, while also helping it produce antioxidants for ultimate respiratory and immune health.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) has recently been studied for its ability to help support your liver and cell health, lift your mood and support healthy blood sugar levels already in the normal range as well as respiratory and immune health, especially when challenged.
